UNS S31600/03 | ASTM A182 | ASTM A276 | ASTM A479.Stainless Steel 316 or 316L stainless steel is a Chromium-Nickel stainless steel with added molybdenum to increase corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. It is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and not hardenable by heat treatment.316L stainless steel is almost identical to 316. The only difference is the carbon content. 316L's lower carbon content imparts even better corrosion resistance than 316. 316L does not require post-weld annealing.The "L" at the end of Type 300 series stainless steel grades (i.e. Type 316L) signifies "low carbon." Carbon contents (Type 304 & Type 316 stainless steel): ~0.08% Carbon contents (L-grades stainless steel): ~0.03%
