304 Stainless Steel UNS S30400. Stainless steel 304 is an austenitic grade of stainless steel that contains high nickel content, typically somewhere between 8 and 10.5 percent by weight and a high amount of chromium that comprises approximately 18 to 20 percent by weight.Equivalent grade of this type in ASTM is 304 Austenite Stainless Steel Sheet. In JIS designation, the corresponding material is referred as SUS304 alloy. In DIN standard, the corresponding material is referred as 1.4301 type steel.An austenitic, non-magnetic, stainless steel 201 has the following composition. It is Chromium (16% - 18%), and Nickel (3.5% - 5.5%). It contains higher amounts of Manganese (5.5%-7.5%) and Nitrogen, and lower amounts of Nickel than type 304 steel.
